Jim Lorway Memorial Bursary
In 1984, MacLeod Lorway Insurance established a bursary fund for three major
high schools in the Sydney area, providing a $500 cash award to each
successful winner. Over the next sixteen years, the program grew as the
company expanded across the province under the common name of MacLeod Lorway
Financial Group Ltd.
Following the untimely death of founding business partner Jim Lorway in
1986, the bursary program was renamed the "Jim Lorway Memorial Bursary" to
honor his memory. Mr. Lorway was involved in many community projects, both
service and recreational. He was also widely known in the community and well
respected for his enthusiasm and congenial nature.
Just as Jim was giving to his community, we pay tribute to his commitment by
offering this bursary program to our clients. Students whose father, mother,
legal guardian, grandparent, aunt or uncle are clients of MacLeod Lorway
Financial Group are eligible to apply for our bursary program.
Bursaries will be awarded to well-rounded individuals who have showed strong
effort in all course material, active in extra curricular and sports
activities, and have earned the respect and admiration of his or her peers.
Winners are not chosen necessarily on highest mark in any particular subject
area.
There will be 20 bursaries of $500 awarded. The selection process will
involve a volunteer committee made up of educators and employees of the
MacLeod Lorway Financial Group.
